Make a stand.

We are students from De La Salle-College of St. Benilde. For our NSTP class, we were required to go to Hacienda Luisita and live with the farmers overnight for an immersion.

Little did we know that it would change our perception on things, and open our eyes to the reality of the farmers.

For decades, they’ve fought peacefully and amicably for their land which is rightfully theirs. But what have they gotten in return? A false picture of themselves painted by the media, as rebels and uncivilized people.

What we witnessed during our immersion couldn’t have been any more different from the footages and stories we would see and hear. They were hospitable. They were kind. They were accommodating. They were loving fathers who would get up at 4 in the morning and would walk 8km just to till the land that was promised to them, only to get less than ten pesos for every square meter they harvested.

It’s not enough that they fight their own battles. It’s time that the youth, the students, and the people who have a voice speak up and take a stand.

The youth have spoken. Now it’s your turn.

How can you help? It’s easy. Simply take a photo of yourself holding up a sign supporting the farmers and their cause. Submit it through http://www.distributehaciendaluisita.tumblr.com directly or better yet, post it in your wall, tag along your friends to add impact, tag along Hacienda Luisita Campaign too in facebook.

A gesture so simple can help a whole lot.
